Auntie Kim’s Pound Cake wants to be in more stores across the region.
With a new store planned for 433 Canton Rd. in Cumming, the pound cake bakery wants to grow its brand in 2021.
“What we do is bake traditional home-style pound cakes,” Co-Owner Mark Boyd said. He owns the business with his wife Kimberly Boyd.
“We started as a family-owned business in March 2020,” he said. “We used to bake for close friends at our church and they said we needed to share it.”
He said sales just took off as soon as they opened.
“We want to turn commercial,” Boyd explained. “We found a space for a commercial manufacturing baking facility. We want to push more pound cakes out to the rest of the state and region.”
Though the plan is to become more of a household name in the pound cake industry, Boyd admitted he was also happy to see the bakery returning to its roots.
On Canton Road, the new location happens to be on the same street of the church they first shared their pound cakes with the public.
“It felt like our roots are here,” he said.
Though Auntie Kim’s Pound Cakes is still waiting on leases and permitting at the new location, Boyd expected construction to start in May with an opening date sometime in June.
