The Oconee County Library board Monday evening announced plans to relocate its facility to the under-construction Wire Park mixed-use development in Watkinsville at the site of the former Southwire factory. Reps for Wire Park, the Oconee County Library board, and project designer Smith Planning Group, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Wire Park’s 60+ acre grounds — nearly 20 of which will be used for a community park and open space with walkable trails — when complete will be comprised of office, retail, and both detached single-family and multifamily apartment housing.

As shown in the below site plan highlighted in red is the proposed location for the Oconee County Library which will be flanked by apartments and retail spaces. The library is currently housed at 1080 Experiment Station Road.

Although an official completion date has not been announced, construction of Wire Park seems to be progressing smoothly through the pandemic, according to updates on the project’s official social media.
