A new concept plans to offer “an escape to nature” in East Austin. According to public filings, Neck of the Woods plans to open at 2702 E. Cesar Chavez St., in Austin’s East Cesar Chavez neighborhood.
What Now Austin reached out to Neck of the Woods’ operators to inquire about an opening timeline, but they declined to share details about the project at this time.
According to its social channels, Neck of the Woods will offer crafted coffees, breakfast, tea, and pastries, paired with Woodneck Kitchen’s food program. Woodneck’s menu leans into scratch-made sandwiches named after streets and spots from the founders hometown on Cape Cod.
The concept is the next chapter for Freewheelin’ Coffee, the Airstream trailer-based coffee shop that had operated a few blocks away at 1917 E. Cesar Chavez St., according to Freewheelin’s Instagram account, now marked as “Closed” and directing followers at Neck of the Woods’ new account, which currently reads “Opening soon.”
According to social networks, that transition traces back to a partnership. Woodneck Kitchen is a food trailer founded by a trio of childhood friends who began hosting breakfast sandwich pop-ups alongside Freewheelin’s Airstream throughout 2025.
That collaboration has since evolved into Neck of the Woods, with Woodneck confirming the trio will run day-to-day operations at the new café, turning a partnership that started with pop-up sandwiches into a permanent, shared brick-and-mortar concept.
The team has also collaborated with other Austin food makers, including Hope’s Kitchen, whose gluten-free chocolate cake and pastries may become a regular offering at the new café, according to social media posts.
