A longstanding Mexican eatery in Quincy has closed its doors, but it’s actively seeking a new space to call home.

After 18 years at 1388 Hancock St, Acapulcos Mexican Family Restaurant & Cantina will cease operations at the end of 2024. The closure comes in response to the city’s plans to take the property by eminent domain, demolish the building, and create a small “pocket park” honoring President John Quincy Adams.

It remains unclear how much the city will compensate Acapulcos for the property and relocation costs. According to The Patriot Ledger, the mayor’s chief of staff said financial details are still being negotiated as both parties work toward an agreement.

Despite this setback, Acapulcos, which has six other locations in Massachusetts and Connecticut, is determined to remain in Quincy.

“While this marks the end of an era for us at this location, we are actively seeking a new home within Quincy in hopes of continuing to serve our beloved community,” ownership shared in a social media post announcing the closure.

Acapulcos is celebrated for its classic Mexican dishes including quesadillas, chimichangas, enchiladas, burritos, tacos, and fajitas.

What Now Boston has reached out to ownership and will provide updates as soon as a new Quincy location is confirmed.
