A new riverfront restaurant is charting its course for Essex.

The Shipyard Tavern will soon take over the former Ripple on the Water space at 74 Main St, right beside the town boat ramp. Nestled at the end of the Essex Causeway Bridge, the venue boasts sweeping views of the Essex River.

“This historic site, once home to a bustling shipyard where wooden vessels and schooners were crafted for centuries, now serves as the backdrop to your dining experience,” reads a teaser from the team.

Open year-round, The Shipyard Tavern will feature a thoughtfully curated menu with warm, comforting dishes in the winter and lighter fare perfect for summer evenings. Guests can also look forward to specialty cocktails and ice-cold beer.

Beyond the brews and bites, the newly renovated space includes a wraparound bar, a cozy dining room, and an outdoor patio with waterfront seating. The team also hopes to offer slip access, allowing boaters to dock and dine for lunch or dinner.

At the helm is Corey Matthews of Synergy Restaurant Group, the force behind local favorites Blue Marlin Grille and Boat House Grille—both in Essex—as well as Choate Bridge Pub in Ipswich. Matthews did not respond to inquiries from What Now Boston.

“Stay tuned as we put the finishing touches on something special!” the teaser continues. “We’ll be revealing our official opening date soon & we can’t wait to welcome you in!”
