More Korean fried chicken is on the way to Greater Boston.
Just a couple of weeks after news broke that five new bb.q Chicken locations were in the works across the region, local franchisee Jacky Zheng has confirmed plans for a sixth restaurant in Stoneham‘s Redstone Shopping Center at 65 Main Street. The upcoming eatery was recently teased in a photo shared to the Friends of Boston’s Hidden Restaurants Facebook group, which showed a “coming soon” sign posted on the door of a space at the center.
Zheng told What Now Boston that the lease was recently signed and that plans for the restaurant are still in the early stages. He has not yet revealed the suite number or an anticipated opening date but said he hopes to share more details as the project progresses.
bb.q Chicken today operates more than 3,500 locations worldwide, including 12 across Massachusetts. Alongside the upcoming Stoneham restaurant, Zheng is planning at least five additional locations in Dorchester, Waltham, Framingham, and Revere.
Founded in Seoul, South Korea, in 1995 by Genesis BBQ Group Chairman Yoon Hong-guen, bb.q Chicken gets its name from the phrase “Best of the Best Quality.” The chain specializes in Korean fried chicken, which is hand-battered and fried at lower temperatures for longer to achieve its signature crispy coating and juicy, meaty interior.
The menu features whole chickens, wings, boneless bites, and drumsticks, with sauces ranging from sweet and savory to spicy. Other offerings include Korean favorites such as ddeok-bokki (spicy rice cakes), rice bowls, and kimchi fried rice.
When it opens, the Stoneham restaurant will join a growing mix of retailers and eateries at Redstone Shopping Center, including Dunkin’, Evviva Trattoria, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Bath & Body Works, Famous Footwear, and LensCrafters.
What Now Boston will continue to follow the project as plans progress, so keep an eye out for updates.
