An iconic Southern California-Mexican fusion restaurant is headed to Burlington.

Chef Jason Santos is opening a second location of his popular Citrus & Salt eatery in the former Osteria Nino space at 19 Third Ave. Osteria Nino, a beloved Italian spot, served the Burlington community for a decade before closing at the end of December 2025.

“It has been our pleasure to serve this community for the past 10 years,” wrote the Lyons Group, Osterio Nino’s ownership team, on the restaurant’s website. “Nino’s is now closed as we make way for new ownership and a revitalized concept that will continue to serve the community well.”

Although the new tenant was not officially announced at the time of closure, a comment posted to the North Shore Dining Facebook group mentions that Citrus & Salt will take over. A special permit filed by Santos at the address confirms the news.

Plans call for a full transformation of the roughly 6,000-square-foot space into a “Baja-inspired Mexican restaurant,” including upgraded interior design, a refreshed seating layout, and an enhanced exterior patio. The total seating capacity will remain similar to the previous operator, with approximately 170 indoor seats and another 70 on the patio. Burlington’s Planning Board is expected to review the project in detail at its February 5 hearing.

Citrus & Salt originally opened in Boston’s Back Bay in 2017 before relocating to a larger Seaport location in 2024. Santos’ menus celebrate the flavors of Southern California and Mexico, featuring dishes like Battered Fish Tacos “Al Pastor”, Spice Rubbed Grilled Flat Iron Steak, fresh ceviches, and house-made margaritas.

What Now Boston has reached out to the Citrus & Salt team for additional details on the Burlington menu and opening timeline. Stay tuned for updates as the eatery prepares to make its mark on the North Shore.
