A peaceful new destination for Korean desserts is making its way to Boston.

Cheongsu, a Seoul-based dessert café whose name translates to “clear water” in Korean, is preparing to open at 144 Harvard Avenue in Allston. Inspired by Korean aesthetics and the art of slowing down, the café aims to offer more than just sweet treats.

“Our brand concept is centered around ‘Aesthetics of Slowness,'” the Cheongsu team told What Now Boston. “We want Cheongsu Boston to feel like a peaceful escape in the middle of the city, where guests can enjoy carefully crafted Korean desserts, drinks, and a relaxing atmosphere.”

The menu will showcase a mix of traditional Korean favorites and contemporary café offerings. Guests can expect desserts such as soufflé castella, fromage cake, mont blanc, handmade yakgwa, and bingsu (Korean shaved ice), alongside matcha beverages, specialty coffees, cream-based drinks, and more.

“We are especially excited to introduce desserts that combine traditional Korean flavors with a modern café presentation,” the team said.

The space itself is being designed with inspiration from Korean gardens, natural materials, and traditional textures, creating a warm, minimalist atmosphere that encourages guests to linger, unwind, and enjoy a “slower rhythm of life.”

Although the Boston café will only be the brand’s second U.S. outpost, Cheongsu has already built a devoted following. Its New Jersey café, which opened in late 2024, quickly gained traction on social media with its thoughtfully designed interiors and intricately presented desserts.

The Allston location will be one of Cheongsu’s largest yet, with plenty of space for everything from quick coffee stops to leisurely dessert outings with friends and family. Construction is currently underway, with an opening planned for late August or early September 2026.

“More than a café, Cheongsu is a place where tradition and nature meet, creating moments of comfort, reflection, and inspiration,” the team shared in a recent announcement. “Step away from the city’s rush and discover your own corner of peace.”
