A legendary Florentine sandwich shop is getting ready to make its Massachusetts debut.

All’antico Vinaio, the famed sandwich chain founded by the Mazzanti family in 1989, is expanding to Boston‘s Back Bay. The new shop will find its home at 565 Boylston St, according to Eater Boston.

In 2021, the Mazzantis teamed up with restaurateur Joe Bastianich and his sister, Tanya Bastianich Manuali, to launch the brand’s first U.S. location in New York City. Since then, All’antico Vinaio has opened several more locations in New York, California, and Nevada.

Known for its signature Florentine-style schiacciata bread sandwiches—pillowy, crispy, and steaming fresh—All’antico Vinaio has long been a must-visit destination for travelers in Florence. When sliced open, the bread releases a visible puff of steam, a phenomenon so celebrated it has its own phrase: “Bada come la fuma” (“watch how it smokes”).

At the new Boston location, expect a menu packed with signature sandwiches, along with the option to choose your own, layering fresh vegetables, spreads, cheeses, and cured meats on warm schiacciata bread.

Tanya Bastianich Manuali told What Now Boston that the new location is on track to open in late August or early September 2025.
