A global Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu organization is preparing to bring its martial arts programs to the northwest suburbs of Boston.

Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu is planning to open a new location at 207 Cambridge Street in Burlington, according to recent social media announcements from the business. The academy is currently under development, and the team is aiming to welcome its first students in late December 2026 or early January 2027.

“We’re proud to announce that Gracie Barra Burlington is officially on its way,” the team shared in an Instagram post. “More than a Jiu-Jitsu academy, we’re building a premium environment where individuals and families can grow stronger, build confidence, develop discipline, and become part of something bigger.”

Founded in 1986 by Master Carlos Gracie Jr. in Rio de Janeiro’s Barra da Tijuca neighborhood, Gracie Barra has grown into a worldwide network of more than 1,300 schools. The organization operates under the motto “Jiu-Jitsu for Everyone,” emphasizing accessibility, personal development, and the values of respect, discipline, and perseverance.

The Burlington academy will be the franchisees’ second Gracie Barra location, following the opening of their first in Andover in February 2025. According to the team, the new outpost will occupy nearly 5,000 square feet, including more than 2,000 square feet of premium mat space designed to provide a “comfortable, high-quality training environment.” The facility will also feature a dedicated children’s room, shower facilities, and ample parking.

Classes will be available for children, teens, and adults, combining Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense instruction with an emphasis on confidence, discipline, and practical skills.

“Our goal is to build more than just a martial arts academy,” the franchisees told What Now Boston. “We want to create a welcoming environment for families, strengthen our connection with the local community, and help our students develop skills that extend far beyond the mats.”

Those interested in signing up ahead of the opening can take advantage of the academy’s limited founding membership offer. A $99 deposit, which will be applied toward the first membership payment, secures a spot in the promotion. The first 50 members will pay $99 biweekly, while the next 50 will pay $109 biweekly. The standard adult membership rate is expected to be $119 every two weeks.

Memberships will include unlimited classes, a uniform package with a gi, rashguard, and belt, and no enrollment fee. Family discounts are also planned, with 5% off the second member and 10% off the third. Founding rates are temporary, and membership terms and promotional details are subject to final written terms.

“We are working hard to prepare the facility and look forward to welcoming our first students,” the franchisees said.
