A popular fitness brand known for its intense, low-impact strength training workouts is continuing its Greater Boston expansion.
Solidcore is planning to open a new studio at 51B Church Street in Wellesley Square, according to The Swellesley Report. The location will join nine existing Massachusetts studios and nearly 200 nationwide.
The upcoming outpost is part of an increasingly busy period for Wellesley Square, where several new businesses are preparing to make their debuts. Solidcore will open near fellow wellness concept Degree Wellness, while Bridgewater Chocolate is also heading to the area.
Founded in Washington, D.C. in 2013 by entrepreneur Anne Mahlum, Solidcore has grown from a single fitness studio into a national brand with a devoted following. The company offers 50-minute, full-body workouts performed on custom reformer machines, combining elements of Pilates and strength training with slow, controlled movements and heavy resistance.
The goal is to keep muscles under tension until they reach fatigue, producing the signature “shakes” that have become synonymous with a Solidcore class. While the method draws inspiration from Pilates, the workout is designed to be considerably more intense, emphasizing strength, endurance, and muscle fatigue.
Classes are held in dimly lit studios set to energetic music, creating an atmosphere that feels closer to a nightclub than a traditional gym. That experience has helped Solidcore build a particularly passionate fan base in recent years, with the brand becoming a fixture of social media fitness culture and attracting high-profile followers. In 2025, the company partnered with actress and comedian Ego Nwodim for its first celebrity campaign.
Representatives for Solidcore told What Now Boston that plans for the Wellesley location are still in the early stages, though the team hopes to open the studio sometime in 2027.
