After 36 years of serving the Hilton Head Island community, Aunt Chilada’s Easy Street Cafe officially closed its doors at 69 Pope Ave on September 1, 2024.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, the restaurant expressed its gratitude:

We will forever cherish the last 36 years of memories and friendships that we have made. We greatly appreciate each and every person who has walked through our doors [and] has made this restaurant so special. We are excited for the future and very grateful for the time we have had here. It’s not a goodbye but a see you later.

Aunt Chilada’s was a beloved fixture in Hilton Head, known for its diverse menu of Mexican, Tex-Mex, and Lowcountry seafood dishes, as well as its lively ambiance and bar scene. The announcement drew an outpouring of fond memories from both locals and visitors.

However, as the post hinted, this may not be a farewell. The Island Packet reports that owners David and Brendan Reilley (uncle and nephew) are planning to open a new Tex-Mex-inspired restaurant in Reilley’s Plaza at 1 Greenwood Dr #7A. This location, currently occupied by One Hot Mama’s BBQ, will soon be vacated as the barbecue restaurant moves to a new venue.

What Now Charleston reached out to David, who said that nothing is set in stone yet and suggested checking back in a couple of months for more details.

While specifics about the new restaurant—such as its name and menu—remain under wraps for now, guests can expect the same quality and flair that Aunt Chilada’s was known for.
