A new bar and restaurant is on the way from a well-known figure in the Charleston bar scene.

The owner of cocktail bars Bar George on James Island and Last Saint on the Eastside peninsula, is behind a new concept coming soon to 1117 King Street, the property owner confirmed to What Now Charleston.

Leases were finalized this week for the unnamed restaurant and bar, which will open in an overhauled version of the former Islamic Center of Charleston on the north end of King Street, near Harbinger Café & Bakery.

Plans submitted to the city show a 500-square-foot interior dining and bar area, along with a 520-square-foot covered outdoor patio. A parking variance for the property was approved by the Zoning Board earlier this year.

Permit applications filed with the city indicate that the concept is on the move, assisted by Barrier Island Engineering and Montana Development.

No timeline has been announced for the restaurant’s opening.
