A beloved Southern comfort food restaurant is getting a new owner as the new year begins.
Kay Heritage will take over Miss Sophie’s at the National Museum of the Mighty Air Force, 175 Bourne Ave. in Pooler. The transition will officially begin on January 6., according to Eat It & Like It.
“We look forward to serving longtime customers and warmly invite area residents to discover the magic of Miss Sophie’s. We love the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force and hope to expose new generations of residents and visitors to this important piece of American history,” Heritage told the outlet.
Heritage brings extensive restaurant experience as the founder of Big Bon Bodega, known for its small-batch, handcrafted menu and numerous accolades. The eatery, a popular community gathering spot, has been featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Good Morning America.
Former owner Teri Bell, who retired earlier this month after running the restaurant for 20 years with her late husband, Steve, is excited to hand the business over to Heritage. She called Heritage a “perfect match.”
Heritage plans to preserve the restaurant’s spirit while building on Bell’s vision. The restaurant now has a fresh new logo and will offer online ordering and delivery services. The menu will continue to highlight Southern-inspired favorites, including Miss Sophie’s signature fried chicken and homemade banana pudding.
Big Bon Bodega will relocate its production kitchens in Savannah and Pooler to Miss Sophie’s, freeing up additional seating for customers at the bodega. Heritage also plans to continue expanding the Big Bon brand.
Miss Sophie’s currently serves customers Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Beginning next year, the restaurant will expand its hours to Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
