An independent bookstore with a sweet twist is preparing to open in Old Town Bluffton.

The Bluffton Bookshop, owned by Allyn Oliver, will open at 89 Bridge St. near Oyster Factory Park and steps from the May River, according to a Facebook post.

“Imagine a cozy spot to find your next great read, connect with friends, and enjoy the more of the charm that makes Bluffton so special,” the post read.

An ice cream window called The Frozen Fiddler will open on the building’s Wharf Street side, offering pre-packaged treats, shaved ice, drinks and other grab-and-go options for shoppers and visitors coming up from the park, The Island Packet reported.

A front patio is also planned, giving visitors a place to relax with a book, a cup of coffee or tea, and a sweet treat.

The bookshop aims to be a one-stop spot for every kind of reader. Its shelves will span fiction, nonfiction, romance, sci-fi, local interest and cookbooks, along with dedicated sections for children, middle schoolers and young adults.

Shoppers can also buy books through Bookshop.org and audiobooks through Libro.fm.

The shop plans to make community events a staple, offering book clubs, author talks, story time, puzzle swaps, writing workshops and vendor gatherings.

The Frozen Fiddler is expected to open daily, while The Bluffton Bookshop will operate Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

An official opening date has not been set, but the new chapter is expected to debut in Spring 2026. For updates, visit the shop’s website or follow it on Instagram and Facebook.
