Merci, a charming European-style bistro, is soon to grace Charleston’s culinary scene, finding its home at 28 Pitt Street in the heart of Harleston Village, where Pitt meets Montagu. Helmed by Chef Michael and Courtney Zentner, the talented duo behind local culinary and event design company The Drifter, Merci is poised to unveil its delights in the summer of 2024.

Chef Zentner told Holy City Sinner that Merci is inspired by the couple’s travels throughout Europe, as well as their fond memories of the cozy bistros dotting the neighborhoods of New York and Boston. Promising a culinary experience rooted in the freshest local produce and a commitment to seasonal flavors, the menu will feature a fusion of French and Italian techniques, breathing new life into beloved classics like steak tartare, foie gras, Beef Wellington, and roasted duck.

Housed within a historic gem—a Federal-style building dating back to the 1820s, meticulously crafted by Helen Rice of Serious Buildings—Merci offers more than just exceptional cuisine. It boasts a versatile studio space available for rent, perfect for hosting trunk shows, workshops, and intimate private events.

Merci will welcome guests for dinner from Wednesday through Saturday, with the addition of Friday lunch service. For the latest updates on all things Merci, be sure to stay connected via their Instagram and website. And for a tantalizing taste of Europe right here in Charleston, stay tuned for Merci’s grand opening—it’s sure to be magnifique.
