A new pizzeria, Brooklyn South Pizza, plans to open in Summerville by the end of November.
The restaurant is slated for 10597 Dorchester Road, in a retail strip anchored by Charleston Bakery & Delicatessen.
Owner Frank Orlando told What Now Charleston that Brooklyn South will focus on authentic New York-style pizza hand-tossed from board to brick oven. Their 20-inch pizzas will be cut with large slices true to their Brooklyn name. They’ll offer pizza by the slice, serving up a variety of 14 pies per day, with lunch specials during the week. Customers can watch the pies being tossed in the open kitchen.
Orlando and his business partner Maher Ali both originate from New York and are now Charleston locals. Orlando started his first restaurant at 18, and has spent more than 30 years running restaurants across multiple states. That includes Brooklyn Express Pizza & Pasta outside of Columbia, which still operates today under new ownership.
Brooklyn South hasn’t set an official opening date yet, but Orlando told What Now Charleston they’re aiming for late November.
