A new bar is uncorking soon in North Charleston, with wine taking center stage.

Dashi Wine Bar and Emporium, a new concept by owners of Dashi, a Latin and Asian infused restaurant, is set to open at 5660 Rivers Ave. about two miles away from the original restaurant.

Co-owner Oscar Hines told What Now Charleston that during the pandemic, they pivoted by restructuring their program to encourage customers to purchase bottles of wine for both on-site and off-site enjoyment.

A standout feature of the Dashi experience has been its popular wine club, which has grown into a community favorite. As reported by the Post and Courier, the club costs $40 per month and includes two bottles of wine, access to monthly tastings, and discounts on beer and sake.

“That’s been really fulfilling for us and fun so we wanted to lean into wine with a wine bar,” Hines said.

Due to constraints, Dashi made it difficult to offer a wide selection of wines by the glass, so Hines is excited to bring that concept to life at the new wine bar.

“I’m excited about giving guests the opportunity to try more glasses of wine by the glass,” he said. “The learning about wines is the most compelling thing for me.”

Dashi Wine Bar and Emporium plans to take a deeper dive into Spanish, Portuguese, and Central and South American wines—selections that complement their Latin and Asian-inspired cuisine.

While the wine bar won’t offer Dashi’s full menu, it will focus primarily on Spanish-style pintxos, which are small plates traditionally served in bars across Spain’s Basque region, Hines explained.

Hines said they do not have a grand opening date set yet as they are waiting on permits from the Department of Revenue in the city of North Charleston.
