Dead Low Coffee Co. is graduating from a coffee stand to a full-fledged storefront. The Folly Beach-based team hung up signage at 113 E Ashley Ave. and plans to open around Valentine’s Day.

Co-owner Patrick Garlock told What Now Charleston that they will maintain their current coffee program and will also have a full run of vegan and gluten free baked goods, in addition to lunch.

“We’ve found a niche in Folly Beach with vegan and gluten free options. Our acai bowls, avocado toast and chia pudding are really popular, so we’ll definitely continue serving those items. We’ll also start offering grab-and-go items like sandwiches, wraps, salads, all made in-house.”

Prior to opening Dead Low, Garlock worked as a lifeguard and surf instructor, as well as a firefighter for the National Parks Service. His business partner, Gavin McCutcheon, has a more traditional food and beverage background, even working for Gordon Ramsey at one point. McCutcheon’s wife Margaret, a former pastry chef at Gnome Café downtown, makes the shop’s vegan and gluten-free baked goods fresh daily.

Dead Low Coffee Co. will be open every day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
