Fonda Fina Hospitality is gearing up to launch a new dining concept in Charleston next year.
Led by Johnny and Kasie Curiel, the restaurant will open on the ground floor of The Charlee on Cannon.
Though the official name has yet to be revealed, the new restaurant will showcase Chef Curiel’s signature approach to celebrating Mexican heritage by sharing stories and culture through every dish in the heart of downtown Charleston, according to a press release.
“We’ve always been inspired by Charleston’s vibrant restaurant community and strong sense of place,” Chef Curiel said in a statement. “Much of my cooking draws from Mexico’s coastal traditions, so it feels natural to connect that with Charleston’s own deep coastal identity. We’re excited to highlight the region’s beautiful local ingredients through our cultural lens. For us, choosing Charleston was a deeply personal decision. The warmth and welcome we’ve already felt from this community make our family excited to call it our home away from home.”
The duo, celebrated for their award-winning restaurants including Alma Fonda Fina, Cozobi Fonda Fina, Mezcaleria Alma and Alteño in Colorado, are excited to bring their acclaimed cuisine to the Lowcountry.
“Every ingredient we source, every plate we serve, and every detail in our spaces is intentional, reflecting our love for Mexico and our belief in its power to bring people together. We’re inspired by the street vendors, abuelas, and regional traditions that shaped our memories, and we’re committed to honoring them with every meal,” the hospitality group’s website reads.
The Curiel’s plan to open the new dining concept in Summer 2026.
