FU-O BBQ, a Japanese-inspired barbecue restaurant, is set to open this winter in Summerville’s Downtown Nexton development.
Owner Jing Guo told What Now Charleston the restaurant will be Charleston’s “newest way to dine.”
“At Fu-O BBQ, dining is more than just a meal—it’s an experience. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of yakiniku, meaning “grilled meat”, we bring people together around the table to cook, share and celebrate. In Japan, yakiniku is all about connection, laughter and conversation—and now Charleston can enjoy this exciting dining style too,” Guo said.
Each table features a smokeless grill, allowing guests to sear premium cuts of beef, chicken, pork and vegetables exactly to their liking.
“From skirt steak in miso marinade to short rib in sweet soy tare, every bite is bold, flavorful and fun,” he said.
FU-O BBQ will also offer shared plates and a raw oyster bar featuring premium local and regional oysters. The drink menu highlights a curated selection of cocktails, Japanese sake and soju and crafted local Charleston brews.
FU-O BBQ will be open daily from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., with happy hour running from 4 to 7 p.m.
While an official opening date has not yet been announced, Guo said, “We are planning on first week of December if everything goes well, not going to have grand opening until January.”
Discount Liquor and Neat & Noble Bourbon Bar, both still under construction, are the newest tenants set to join FU-O BBQ in the development. For updates, visit FU-O BBQ’s website.
