A vibrant, garden-themed destination is set to bloom this fall in Savannah’s Starland District.
Garden Square Cocktail Bar, owned by Jake Grier, will open at 2400 Bull St.
The new restaurant and cocktail bar will span about 6,000 square feet, including a 3,000-square-foot outdoor patio filled with plants, with both areas seating 50 to 60 guests. Inside, a large mural by artist Kipper Millsap will extend the garden-inspired feel, according to Business Debut.
Garden Square will serve classic bar food with a twist, drawing on local and global flavors and highlighting fruit, vegetables and herbs. The menu will feature appetizers, sandwiches, salads, a weekend brunch selection and desserts such as Burnt Basque cheesecake and mango key lime pie.
Chef Matt Wallace of Black Sheep in Beaufort, S.C., is developing the menu and also serves as a partner in the new spot, according to the website.
Standout dishes include chicken liver mousse with pickled sour cherries; cold cuts with red wine dressing, marinated onions and arugula on Annie’s bread; burrata with fresh and marinated blueberries and toasted almonds; and smoked trout with crème fraîche, black pepper, chives and pickled onions.
Garden Square will feature a curated cocktail program showcasing fresh ingredients from its own garden.
The menu highlights the “Garden Square Mint Julep”, made with Buffalo Trace bourbon, fresh mint, sugar and ice; a “Watermelon Basil Margarita”, blending watermelon, basil, Espolón tequila blanco and lime juice; and the “Frozen Cocomotion”, combining Cotton & Reed white rum with coconut, pineapple and pandan fruit.
The bartenders will also offer mixology classes for guests eager to learn how to craft “killer cocktails,” with each session paired with small bites from the kitchen.
Although the official opening date has not yet been announced, the website reads, “Drink. Chill. Eat. Coming Fall 2025.” Visit the restaurant and bar’s website and follow its Instagram for updates.
