Gillie’s Seafood, a popular roadside diner on James Island, has temporarily closed its doors.

The 805 Folly Rd restaurant shared the news on social media, posting, “Hi folks! Thanking you in advance for your concern and patience. We are working hard to get you back in here soon as possible…so stay tuned!” The reason for Gillie’s closure is currently unclear.

Since its opening in 2017, Gillie’s has earned a reputation for its hearty comfort dishes, offering seafood favorites and Southern specialties like okra gumbo, po’boys, fried pork chops, crab cakes, and mac and cheese.

Chef and owner Sean Mendes has not responded to inquiries from What Now Charleston, but there is speculation that the eatery will reopen within the next few weeks. Keep an eye out for updates.
