Husband-and-wife duo Terry and AJ Hung are set to open a faith-based cafe in Charleston.
Cafe Hosanna will open at 106 Gosling Way, Suite C, in Summerville.
Terry Hung told What Now Charleston they were raised Buddhist in an Asian household, spent some time as agnostic, and later embraced Christianity. Now baptized and following God’s word, they were praying about their next steps in life.
“We had experience with restaurants and cafes. We had this calling on creating a place where we could start conversations about Jesus and do gatherings within the community. This is something we struggled with because we didn’t want to go back into the business, but it was constantly on our minds as we prayed. We got confirmation after confirmation that this is what we should do,” he said.
Hung said the cafe will have a simple theme, a cool vibe, and biblical-inspired decor with stone accents. He plans to host events and community gatherings, with mellow gospel music filling the air.
“We want that feeling of when you walk in, you’re automatically greeted as a family member. It can be a personal place for people. I want people to know us. I want people to know everyone,” Hung said.
He continued, “Our main purpose is to spread the Gospel and if we can help or be used to have Jesus save another soul, it’s all worth it.”
The cafe will serve classic coffee and espresso drinks, including lattes, and highlight matcha specialties. It will also offer Asian baked goods and pastries.
“All ingredients that we use, we just want to be transparent with everyone because we want to make it seem like we’re serving the Lord,” Hung said. “We’re serving the best we can.”
Cafe Hosanna is still under construction and will debut in the spring. Follow the cafe’s updates on its website and Instagram.
