With summer heating up, Puma’s Italian Ice & Hot Dog Shack is expanding with a second location in North Charleston.

The new shop is expected to open in mid-July at 8636 Dorchester Road in the Dorchester Pavilion Shopping Center, according to the Post and Courier

It will be operated by Stephanie and Tommy Mansfield in partnership with original owners Chris and Christine Puma. The first location is at 115 E. Richardson Ave. in Summerville.

“My friend’s family has been making Italian ice for more than 80 years,” Chris Puma told the outlet. “Downtown Summerville reminds us of the small towns we had on Long Island, and we wanted to bring that mom-and-pop feel to the Lowcountry.”

The new location will offer about 18 flavors of Italian ice, shipped from a family-owned supplier in Long Island, New York. Flavors include unique creations such as cannoli made with fresh cheese, mango habanero and strawberry.

Along with Italian ice, the shop serves ice cream and customizable hot dogs. Toppings range from chili, pulled pork and jalapeños to more unusual options like jelly, Oreos and Nutella.

Customers can also attempt to complete Puma’s Dog Menu, which features more than 100 hot dog combinations with eccentric names. Those who finish the list receive a T-shirt and discounts on future orders. Progress can be tracked on the shop’s website.
