Jeff’s Bagel Run, a fast-growing bagel shop chain known for its handcrafted, New York-style bagels, in-house-made cream cheeses, and full coffee program, is slowly taking over the greater Charleston area.
Founded in 2019 by Jeff and Danielle Perera in Winter Garden, Florida, the brand began as a home-based operation during the pandemic. Jeff personally delivered freshly baked bagels to friends and neighbors, and the overwhelming response led to the opening of the first brick-and-mortar store in Ocoee, Florida, in June 2021. Now, through franchising, the company is experiencing substantial growth, especially within Charleston.
The first Jeff’s Bagel Run location at 1721 Clements Ferry Road near Daniel Island opened on April 25, with a soft opening on April 24, where free bagels were served to anyone who stopped by, according to the Post & Courier. A second shop at 1400 Palm Boulevard on the Isle of Palms is scheduled to open in mid-May, just in time for the Memorial Day holiday.
Carolina Bagel Ventures has secured 1,254 square feet of retail space at 1180 Bees Ferry Road in West Ashley and a location in Indigo Square across from Mount Pleasant Towne Centre, which is expected to open in June 2025. A fifth location on James Island near Camp Road is slated for a July opening, with the lease still being finalized.
These locations will be operated by Mount Pleasant resident Matt Andrews, a partner in the business, who will lead day-to-day operations and serve as the general manager for these new locations. Justin Wetherill, who co-founded the technology repair company uBreakiFix, oversees the expansion of Jeff’s Bagel Run locations as the franchisor. From him, Andrews and Lowcountry franchisee Matt Immerfall have signed on to franchise 26 stores throughout the Southeast, including Columbia, Greenville, Asheville, Savannah, Augusta, and Athens.
