The folks behind Sneaky Beagle, Grumpy Monk and Hop N’ Wich are planning several new concepts for the Myrtle Beach area, according to co-owner Suzan Heryadi.
First up is Lava Korean Steakhouse. Located next to the Myrtle Beach Mall at 10207 Highway 17, the restaurant is scheduled to open by mid-February.
The high-end yet relatively affordable menu will feature all house-made items, including flame grilled dry aged steak, prime beef, USDA choice meats, American and Australian Wagyu (plus Japanese Wagyu on select dates), a full sushi bar with an omakase option and unique offerings (think Wagyu nigiri and toro topped with caviar laying on a bed of uni), plus authentic Chongqing-style hot pot.
Heryadi is quite excited about the menu. “I’m a sushi guy, I’ve been doing it for 35 years. We’ve been testing out some of our new sushi dishes with our friends and they love it. On the other hand, my wife is Chinese and she’s passionate about hot pot. Our three soup bases are all made from scratch – tomato, chicken and spicy. The spicy base is simmered with cow fat for hours to get the perfect flavor.”
Upon first opening, Lava will serve dinner daily from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. After the staff is fully trained, they will start serving lunch between 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Lava isn’t all Heryadi is working on. “We’re going to start building Coastal Beer Project soon, a brewery that will be located at Carolina Forest near the Sneaky Beagle. It will have small bites like pizza, burgers, chicken wings, but the main focus will be on the beer, which will be made by our great brewer Brock Kurtzman.” The brewery will have a groundbreaking in March and should be fully operational by next year.
For patrons to be able to enjoy Coastal Beer Project brews before 2025, Heryadi mentioned that the Sneaky Beagle will be undergoing renovations to house some brewery equipment as well as build out a pub and expand its bar. Sneaky Beagle will temporarily close while renovations are being made.
But wait, there’s more. “We’re thinking about opening up another tapas-style French restaurant called The Salty Duck somewhere in the area. Hopefully that will be open by the end of summer, but nothing is set in stone yet,” added Heryadi.
