A local baker is preparing to launch her first brick-and-mortar shop in North Charleston.

Courtney Colangelo will soon open Cakette Bakeshop at 4546 Durant Ave, taking over the space previously occupied by Park Circle Co-op.

An experienced baker, Colangelo began her career working in and managing various bakeries, including The Little Tart Bakeshop in Atlanta. She has also collaborated with renowned bakers like New York Times bestselling author Cheryl Day.

Colangelo first gained a local following through her pop-ups at Prophet Coffee Roaster’s mobile van and, later, at their Park Circle brick-and-mortar café, where her pastries often sell out.

Cakette Bakeshop will operate primarily as a quick-service, to-go bakery, with most of the interior dedicated to the baking kitchen, according to a recent Charleston City Paper report. Customers can order from an indoor counter, and there will be limited outdoor seating.

Initially, the menu will focus on daily pastries like Colangelo’s Vegan Salted Caramel Apple Galettes and Peach Pecan Scones, with plans to add sandwiches and coffee in the future.

While an exact opening date hasn’t been confirmed, Colangelo hopes to debut Cakette Bakeshop sometime in December 2024. Supporters can help bring the bakeshop to life by attending Cakette’s weekly pop-ups and donating via Venmo at @cakettebakeshop.

“Thank you all for your love and encouragement—I couldn’t have come this far without it,” Colangelo wrote in a recent Facebook update. “I can’t wait to share everything I’ve been working on with you all!”
