A popular Mexican restaurant with a loyal following is moving to a new location in Charleston
Maya Del Sol Kitchen, owned by Raul Sanchez, will reopen at the Starlight Motel Inn after previously operating at 1813 Reynolds Ave.
“My lease was up. I couldn’t renew my lease. I got a nice opportunity at the new place. We’re moving into the Starlight property which will give us more visibility,” Sanchez told What Now Charleston.
The new location will feature a more modern feel, along with a patio and space for private events.
“It’s designed the same; it just looks a little cleaner because there are real walls, while the other one was more of a warehouse,” he said.
Maya Del Sol Kitchen is known for its chef’s table dinners, offered Thursday through Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.
“We do five-course chef’s table dinners by reservation. There’s a big counter in front of the stove and we prepare the five-course dinners that way. It’s a fixed menu and it’s always different,” Sanchez said.
Past dinners have featured themed cuisines such as Puerto Rican, Moroccan, Italian, Indian and Greek, along with specials like taco and beer night and Huitlacoche night.
In addition to dinner service, the restaurant will offer lunch and a Sunday brunch, with no reservations required.
Sanchez said he is excited to serve in the new space.
“There’s no restaurant at the hotel. The guests who are staying always ask where they can find breakfast, lunch or dinner. Now, when people are checking out, they can have lunch or brunch here,” Sanchez said. “I do have a following of 15 years, so I’m excited to reopen and get a little more publicity along with the hotel.”
Maya Del Sol Kitchen plans to open in early February. Visit the website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook for updates.
