A downtown Charleston restaurant will soon close, making way for a new concept.
Indigo Road Hospitality Group’s Maya will shut its doors at the end of the year, as reported by The Post and Courier.
The Mexican-inspired eatery opened at 479B King St in 2021, taking over the space formerly occupied by The Macintosh—another Indigo Road concept that ran for nearly 10 years.
Maya’s menu features a variety of “classic and reimagined” Mexican dishes with coastal influences, including tacos, fajitas, crunchwraps, enchiladas, grilled snapper, ceviche, and more.
Although Maya’s team has consistently delivered on quality, Indigo Road founder Steve Palmer said that the restaurant ultimately fell short on sales. After months of monitoring, he has made the difficult decision to move on from the concept.
In addition to its popular Charleston hotspots—O-Ku, The Cedar Room, The Cocktail Club, and Indaco, to name a few—Indigo Road boasts a variety of upscale restaurants scattered throughout the country.
The group is currently deciding between two concepts. Renovations for the new restaurant are set to begin early next year, with hopes of launching the new eatery by late spring 2025.
