A new restaurant, The Harlow, is set to open in James Island in the Harbor View shopping center this fall.

Its Facebook page positions the spot as a “local Island-Americana restaurant bringing mouth-watering burgers, oysters, and more coming soon to [James Island].” The indoor-outdoor restaurant is currently being built out in the former Smith Family Cleaning building at 1015 Harbor View Road, between Aji Asian Bistro and Grumpy Goat Seafood Cantina.

The menu will feature a variety of American and seafood dishes, including a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, bison burgers, veggie burgers, seafood pasta, and chargrilled oysters. They also plan to offer craft cocktails and beer.

Owner Josh Drewry says he and his wife are locals with restaurant industry experience inspired by the opportunity to repurpose the space, vacant since 2020, into something that could fill a need in the neighborhood. “We love burgers, we love oysters, we love the neighborhood. It just made sense,” says Drewry.

That vision included removing a front extension of the building to make room for an outdoor patio and bar. Drewry says they hope to host live music at the restaurant. As for the atmosphere: “It’s a place for date nights, to come get a martini. And it’s a place to bring the family and sit around the table with burgers and Cokes.” True to their local and family-owned ethos, the restaurant is named after their youngest daughter.

The Drewries have brought a chef to their team and aim for a mid-September opening date.
