A New York-based health food cafe is planning to expand with four new restaurants in coastal South Carolina.
Bowled Co recently opened its first South Carolina restaurant thanks to franchisee Kathleen Pingelski, a New York native who says she felt her time in Myrtle Beach was missing something similar to the clean-eating concept she’d enjoyed back home.
She took it upon herself to fill that gap, inking a deal with Bowled to open four restaurants in the region over the coming years.
The first opened just three weeks ago on the south side of Myrtle, at the Sayebrook Town Center shopping plaza in Surfside Beach. Pingelski told What Now Charleston that location has already seen success, thanks to a warm welcome from locals looking for an alternative healthy food option.
A second location is already in the works, with a lease signed near the football stadium of Coastal Carolina University. Pingelski estimates that shop could open within the next four to six months.
For the third location, she’s seeking out a space in North Myrtle Beach, but nothing’s been confirmed yet. The vicinity of the fourth location is still to be determined.
Pingelski says the Bowled concept is unique to the area because it combines three popular healthy choices – acai bowls, smoothies, and hearty grains and greens salads – in a one-stop-shop.
