A popular Philadelphia sandwich chain is expanding to Myrtle Beach, with several locations planned—starting with one opening Thursday.

PrimoHoagies will open behind Coastal Grand Mall at 1753 Sea Pine Blvd., Building B, Unit 101. The shop will be owned and operated by Horry County native Angela Hays Victoria.

Victoria told What Now Charleston that she and her husband, David Victoria, decided to franchise PrimoHoagies after a previous location in Myrtle Beach closed during the pandemic. The shop had been a favorite of theirs, and years later, they still found themselves talking about how nothing compared.

“They are really good,” Victoria said. “I don’t say that because we’re franchising, that’s why we franchise. It’s an amazing sandwich.”

Victoria plans to open 10 locations in the area, with a second site already in the early planning stages.

“We’re looking at our second location now, it’s near the Market Common, which is kind of close to this one but it’s two different target audiences, two different markets,” she said. “Beyond that, we would like to go down to Murrells Inlet, up through Little River and out to Conway.”

The hoagie shop offers a variety of sandwiches, including Italian classics—Victoria’s favorite—as well as deli-style options, meatless varieties, meatball subs, Philly cheesesteaks, Primo cutlets, tuna, schwartzies and diablos.

Victoria said she’s most excited about giving back to the community through the business.

“I’m excited about being able to contribute to the youth in the area for their sport leagues—we’re sponsoring several baseball teams, soccer and lacrosse teams,” she said. “Another thing I’m excited about is we support a lot of nonprofit organizations, and I’m trying to work on ways to raise money through the different locations.”

The first location will open Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:45 a.m. before doors open.

The first 100 customers in line will receive a free hoagie. Through Sunday, $10 hoagies will be available to customers who sign up for the PrimoPerks rewards program.

The 2,100-square-foot store is expected to employ 15 to 20 staff members. It will offer dine-in, takeout, delivery and catering options, along with outdoor seating.

“I’ve been a business owner for a lot of years, but this is a different kind of business, and it’ll end up being a lot more employees than I’ve ever managed,” Victoria said. “It’s a nervous excitement, but I’m really thrilled that we have the opportunity to do this for the community.”

PrimoHoagies will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
