Rusty Bull Brewing Co. has acquired Southern Barrel Brewing Co., a Bluffton brewery best known for its Damn Yankee IPA.
The deal is expected to quadruple Rusty Bull’s production capacity, paving the way for both brands to expand their reach across South Carolina, the company announced.
Founded in 2017 by Brian Bogstad and Ben Mayer, Rusty Bull has become a mainstay in Charleston’s craft beer scene.
“With the acquisition of Southern Barrel Brewing, we’re combining our production capabilities to be able to expand the distribution of both Rusty Bull and Southern Barrel beers throughout South Carolina–while preserving the unique identity of each brand,” Bogstad said in a statement.
“This acquisition will allow us to continue our mission and bring more people together through unique local experiences, and over a few delicious pints of course,” Mayer said in a statement.
Rusty Bull closed its King Street taproom on August 10, following the recent acquisition, as its lease expired.
“But don’t worry–we’re not going anywhere! You can still find all of our beer and full food menu at the Rusty Bull Brewery in North Charleston. And who knows, maybe another second tap room location could be in our future!,” Rusty Bull shared via Facebook.
The North Charleston brewery pours 16 beers on tap, offering a mix of signature brews and seasonal creations. Fan favorites include Juice Juice Hazy IPA, Dance Naked IPA, Berry Stomp and Livin’ Easy Lager, available at more than 180 locations across the Lowcountry.
