A new health-food hangout is headed to the Island Plaza shopping center on James Island in early 2024.

Rype Juice Bar has signed a lease for Suite 15 in the Food Lion-anchored retail park, between GNC and Alvin Ord’s sandwiches. Carolina Retail Experts represented the landlord in the transaction.

Rype’s owner, Stephen Robinson, told What Now Charleston they are preparing to start the buildout of the space. His vision includes constructing a handful of wifi-enabled immersive pods where customers can relax or plug in their laptop and zone in. They’ll also cater to the on-the-go crowd with quick-service takeout and pickup options.

On the menu at Rype will be a range of health-forward options: cold-pressed juices, smoothies, acai bowls, vegan salads, superfood lattes and unique teas. They’ll also offer three-, five- and seven-day juice cleanses, making them one of the only shops to do so on the island.

Robinson is a James Island local, but he’s striving to bring a bit of the west coast to the island with Rype, even working with a juicing consultant who runs a small chain of juice cafes in the Los Angeles Area. Rype will be his first venture into the restaurant business.

Robinson told What Now Charleston that he expects to serve Rype Juice Bar‘s first customers sometime in February of 2024. Until then, you can follow them on Instagram for updates.
