Salty Bottoms Espresso, owned by Todd and Lea Hoiland, is getting ready to caffeinate Murrells Inlet this fall. The shop will be located on U.S. Highway 17 next to Gator Zone Sports Bar and Grille.

“When I was a kid growing up, I went to Hawaii with my parents, got sand in my pants. Salty Bottoms Espresso is very fitting. I felt like it was a really cute, fun name. What better to go with the beach,” Hoiland told What Now Charleston.

The duo moved to Myrtle Beach nearly four years ago and previously owned a coffee shop in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, giving them plenty of experience crafting a great cup of coffee.

“I really love everybody in this area. I’ve gotten to know the people next door that own Gators and they’re so nice. I’m excited to be a part of the community and also working for myself,” she said.

Salty Bottoms will feature handpicked coffee from a Brazilian roaster.

“Our roaster is out of Pisgath, North Carolina. We found a local family roaster up there and this is a Brazilian roaster. I’m really excited about that because I’m not sure of any other Brazilian roasters around. It’s handpicked, it’s not machine-picked beans. It’s very unique to our area,” Hoiland said.

The owners plan to keep things simple with affordable prices and classic coffee and espresso options, while also offering specialty drinks and seasonal specials when they open.

“We’ll have black coffee or your Americanos,” she said. “We will also have an energy drink that’s kind of newer to the area. Some of them taste like a cream soda or Redbull, but it’s made with healthier ingredients.”

For now, they will focus solely on drinks, but plan to add light snacks to complement them in the future. They also hope to expand the Salty Bottoms Espresso brand throughout the area over time.

Hoiland said the shop is scheduled to officially open within the next 30 days.
