A new burger joint will slide into the North Charleston area next year.
Smalls Sliders, known for its colorful shipping container above the restaurant, will debut at 2280 Ashley Phosphate Rd. in the former Denny’s location, franchise owner Elliott Strott told What Now Charleston.
“It’s a vibrant concept and I’m happy to be a part of it at the ground level,” Strott said.
Strott, a real estate professional, said he discovered the franchise while managing several rental properties in the New Orleans area, where the first Smalls location was already open. An associate of his was also an operating partner at a Smalls location in Marrero.
“I thought to myself, if they start expanding and selling off territories, I’d like to try this out in Charleston. Lo and behold, they opened it up for franchisees, and I bought the rights to the Tri-County area for Berkeley, Dorchester, and Charleston counties,” he said.
The “can” offers its original slider topped with melted American cheese, pickles and the signature “Smauce.” Fans can also try the Biggie Smalls burger, Strott’s favorite, which features double meat and cheese, with an optional bacon add-on. The menu is rounded out with seasoned cut waffle fries made from Russet potatoes and a selection of shakes.
Strott is eager to bring the concept to the Lowcountry.
“Charleston is just right for this concept,” he said. “The transformation that I’ve seen in Charleston has been crazy with the amount of growth, so I think that this will have a good following and I’m very hopeful.”
Smalls Sliders is set to debut in January 2026, and Strott said he has four additional locations planned as part of a five-store, five-year expansion plan.
