Charleston will soon welcome an intimate, speakeasy-inspired omakase experience.

Sushi | Bar Hospitality is expanding its portfolio with a new Sushi | Bar at 158 Church St. The acclaimed concept first debuted in Austin and now operates in Chicago, Dallas, Hermosa Beach, Miami Beach, Nashville and Palm Beach.

“Behind an unmarked door in Charleston, you’ll discover a hidden sanctuary where two intimate dining rooms await, each boasting only 12 coveted seats. Situated directly in front of the chef’s cutting boards, immerse yourself in a relaxed and captivating atmosphere as our culinary artisans artfully prepare a symphony of playful new wave nigiri and other delectable treasures from both land and sea,” the website reads.

The concept has earned praise from Forbes, The New York Times, Eater and Bon Appétit, in part because it’s among the few operators working directly with Japanese markets, flying in top-grade fish.

Sushi | Bar also features a curated cocktail program, with lounges beside the dining room for pre or post-dinner drinks.

The Charleston location will operate Wednesday through Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. Reservations open on the first of each month for the following month’s experiences.
