A new Spinx convenience store and gas station may be coming to Berkeley County.

According to the Post and Courier, the company has applied for a permit with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to develop 6.6 acres at 3212 Old Highway 52 in Moncks Corner.

Spinx also plans to open a location this summer in Mount Pleasant at the former Richard’s Bar and Grill on U.S. Highway 17.

The South Carolina-based chain is known for its fried chicken, served original or spicy, bone-in, or as tenders and nuggets. It also offers family meals and party platters, including oven-roasted chicken, fried chicken livers and gizzards.

Customers can pair their meals with sides such as potato wedges, green beans, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, french fries and fried okra. Other offerings include grilled cheese sandwiches, pork chops, corndogs and snack wraps. Breakfast items, served in the morning, include biscuits, sandwiches and wraps with hash browns.

Spinx was founded by Stewart Spinks, a former Shell Oil Co. employee who opened his first gas station at Laurens Road and East Washington Street in Greenville. The company is now led by CEO Steve Spinks.

What Now Charleston reached out to the company regarding the new locations, but it has not responded.

Spinx operates more than 80 stores across South Carolina. In 2020, it launched a food truck called the Cluk Truck, and in 2024, it introduced Spinx Market and Eatery, offering fresh, artisanal food alongside grab-and-go options.
