Philadelphia-based bagel chain Spread Bagelry is moving forward with plans to open a second location in Charleston, setting an opening date of November 1 for a spot on King Street in the Historic District.
The new bagel shop is currently under construction in the ground floor of the Hoffler Place Apartments, which opened in 2019 and is geared toward College of Charleston students. Other shops in the building include Pink Bellies and Buzzed Ball Creamery.
Spread Bagelry’s first Charleston-area location opened in Mount Pleasant in July. There are currently 10 other locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with even more locations in the works for their home state as well as Savannah, Georgia.
Founded in 2010, the café focuses on Montreal-style wood oven bagels, which they sell by the dozen or as sandwiches for breakfast, brunch, lunch and catering. They also serve espresso drinks, coffees and teas.
Upon its opening in November, Spread Bagelry on King St will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out.
