James Island restaurant Tattooed Senorita Cantina, which has been closed indefinitely following a 2022 fire, may be pursuing plans to reopen.
Construction permits submitted to Charleston County this week show plans for repairs to gas, plumbing, drywall, masonry, framing and trim at the 1846 Old Folly Beach Road building that housed the Cantina for five years prior to the fire last September. McCray’s Construction Services has been contracted for the repairs.
The Tattooed Senorita Cantina is owned by Rick Agius, whose company Black Sheep Hospitality also operates local favorites like Blu Oyster, Zeppelin Pizza, Garage 75 and Smoky Oak Taproom.
Prior to closing, the restaurant was known locally for its colorful Day of the Dead-themed decor, large outdoor patio and twist on Mexican dishes. Regulars raved about their War Pig tacos, stuffed jalapenos, and unique Latin-inspired cocktails.
Construction permits are still pending, and a reopening timeline has not been announced. A Tattooed Senorita representative was unavailable for comment.
