A smoky new addition is coming to Beaufort this fall.
Bordertown BBQ is set to open at Beaufort Town Center, replacing Home Slice Pizzeria at 2001 Boundary St., behind Starbucks and next to the former Quality Inn, according to Explore Beaufort SC.
Owners Kristen Miklinevich and Sam Kochan, who have operated a Mexican restaurant in Massachusetts for the past 14 years, are blending Texas barbecue with Mexican flavors—a combination inspiring the name “Bordertown.”
The couple relocated to Beaufort in 2024.
Miklinevich told the outlet their flavor comes from Central Texas-style slow-smoked meats, prepared on a 1,000-gallon stick burner that will run nearly nonstop outside the building, filling the air with smoky aromas.
The menu will feature brisket and other smoked meats, Mexican-style street tacos, traditional barbecue sides, large combo platters, and rotating lunch, dinner and brunch specials. All dishes will be made without seed oils. Instead, they’ll use house-rendered tallow and other animal fats, along with avocado and olive oils, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
The beverage menu will include margaritas made with fresh-squeezed juice.
Plans for the space also include a honky-tonk-style bar in the back of the restaurant, complete with live music, event space and late-night service on the outdoor patio.
Bordertown BBQ is targeting a mid-October opening. Initial hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. four to five days a week, with adjustments expected after opening.
