A barbecue restaurant recently closed its doors at 651 Silver Bluff Road in Aiken and is now searching for a new location.
The Pot Smoker BBQ is run by Philip Pye and his parents, Andy and Kathy Pye.
“While we have plans of moving to another location–the spot will take a few months to get ready. In the meantime, you will see the food truck out and about–as well as us at many caterings and local events!” the restaurant shared via Facebook.
The Pot Smoker offers a wide range of Southern-style favorites, from pulled pork, brisket and ribs to smoked chicken plates and hearty sandwiches.
The menu features a variety of sides, including mac and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw and loaded potato salad, along with a kids menu and house desserts such as pecan pie, pound cake and New York cheesecake.
Diners can pair their meals with sweet tea, lemonade, soda or a selection of beer and wine.
The restaurant spent the past eight years on Aiken’s southside, but the Pyes said they’re ready to begin their next chapter.
Bobby Boggs founded The Pot Smoker in North Augusta, and the Pye family later brought the concept to Aiken through a licensing agreement with him.
Boggs first began refining his barbecue recipe on a Big Green Egg ceramic smoker. Friends loved the flavor but had never seen a ceramic smoker before, so he described it as “two ceramic flower pots sitting on top of each other.” They jokingly called his meat “pot smoked” and soon nicknamed him the “Pot Smoker.” The name stuck, and when it came time to open a restaurant, The Pot Smoker BBQ was the only choice, according to the restaurant’s website.
What Now Charleston reached out to the team regarding the new outpost, however, they have not yet responded. This article may be updated.
