A traditional Irish pub is coming to Savannah.

The Sexton Pub and Provisions, owned by Josh and Michael Sexton, draws inspiration from Irish heritage.

“It’s mine and my brother’s original concept,” Josh told What Now Charleston. “We come from a very large Irish Catholic family. Me and my brother have eight other siblings that are a part of our big family. For our first restaurant we wanted to do a traditional Irish pub.”

The Sexton will occupy a historic 1930s home, lending the pub a classic, timeless feel.

“It’s two stories. When you first walk in you’ll see a stairway that goes up to two separate dining rooms upstairs,” he said. “Downstairs, we’ll have a full bar and our kitchen. We have a back patio area and then we have even more space that’s connected to our area that we can use for events.”

Josh said the menu will go beyond typical pub fare, offering a modern take on Irish classics and street food.

One standout dish will be the Irish spice bag, a popular late-night takeaway dish found in Chinese restaurants and chip shops across Ireland. Typically served in a paper bag, it combines crispy chicken, chips, stir-fried onions and peppers and a blend of chili, garlic and five-spice seasoning, making it a greasy, spicy favorite for many.

The menu will also feature battered sausages and sausage rolls, boxty—traditional Irish potato pancakes—and pasties, which are savory meat pies. Classic dishes such as fish and chips, bangers and colcannon and shepherd’s pie will round out the offerings.

The pub is still developing its cocktail program but plans to feature a variety of Irish whiskey, gin and vodka. With a high-end cocktail background from Atlanta and San Francisco, Josh aims to create an elevated, distinctive menu for Savannah while keeping classic favorites in focus.

“I think the most exciting thing is coming from a background in hospitality and being toward the front of the house–building community, building regulars and creating a third space for people to be at that is welcoming and comfortable,” he said.

While a grand opening date has not yet been announced, The Sexton Pub and Provisions plans a soft opening at the end of September, with an official launch scheduled for October.
