A D.C.-based pizza shop is flipping into the Carolina coast for the first time.

Timber Pizza Co. is bringing its signature pies to Charleston, opening a new location in the North Central District at 741 Meeting St.

“We’re just excited to be in a neighborhood area,” Jeremy Waybright, Charleston operator and chef, told What Now Charleston. “We’re excited about actually being there for the people that live here. Tourists too—we’re excited to feed them also.”

The menu features 12-inch green, white and red pies baked in a Marra Forni oven at 650 degrees. In addition to pizza, Timber serves empanadas, salads and desserts.

“This is a passion project that has been years in the making, and we couldn’t be happier to be working with Jeremy to bring Timber’s spirit to life in the heart of the Holy City,” said Chris Brady, co-founder and president of Timber Pizza Co., in a release. “Cheers to Charleston for welcoming us with their signature southern hospitality. We can’t wait to serve you a friendly smile and some damn good pizza.”

The 1,755-square-foot space will include a full-service bar, which will be Timber’s largest to date. It will seat 14 guests and be the first thing customers see as they walk in. The rest of the shop will accommodate 34 guests indoors and 16 outdoors on an intimate patio.

The space will feature bench tables, a reclaimed wood design and a Lowcountry-inspired mural created by a local artist.

The shop will be open seven days a week, offering both dine-in and pickup options.

“It’s a pizza place for the people,” Waybright said. “It’s nice to see other pizza places opening up and I would love for there to be a bigger conversation about the pizza game in Charleston.”

Timber Pizza Co. began in 2014 when Brady and Andrew Dana spent their off hours working with a pizza oven, a 1967 Chevy pickup truck and a deep love for dough.

According to the press release, Timber selects each new location with the goal of becoming the neighborhood’s favorite spot for wood-fired pizza, creative flavors and good vibes.

The pizzeria has received the Michelin Bib Gourmand Award and was named Pizzeria of the Year by Bon Appétit.

While an exact date has not been announced, Timber Pizza Co. plans to open its doors in Charleston in July.
