Botiwalla is bringing Indian cuisine to the Triangle, with plans to open at Raleigh Iron Works later this year, according to reporting by Axios Raleigh.
This will be the fifth location for the brand, which currently has two locations in Asheville, one in Charlotte and one in Atlanta.
Founded by chef Meherwan Irani, the brand pays “homage to his life long love of kababs and Irani Cafes,” according to the website. Irani Cafes were founded by people who emigrated from Persia to India and opened tea and kabab houses. Irani’s great-grandfather Sheriar Irani owned an Irani Cafe, and Irani followed in his footsteps here in the U.S. The brand is also inspired by late-night Indian street foods.
“His mission with Botiwalla is to bring the streets of India to life — the glowing charcoal sigris, the sizzling meats, the aromas of chaat masala and the crispy, crunchy, multi-textured street snacks — in the most delicious way possible,” the Botiwalla website states.
The menu consists of finger foods like bhel puri and masala smashed potatoes; grilled foods like chicken tikka rolls and lamb kebab rolls; and drinks like chai and handcrafted sodas.
Irani also owns Chai Pani, which opened its first location in Asheville in 2009. It also has a spot in Decatur, Ga., which opened in 2013, and a forthcoming location in Washington, D.C., slated to open in August.
