Taco Roos, a sister concept to popular Southern fast-casual chain Cook Out, has received permits for building at 9615 N. Tryon St., according to Mecklenburg County permits issued earlier this month.
The permits indicate plans for a 1,881-square-foot restaurant, owned by Cook Out. Taco Roos serves taco boxes that contain tacos, a drink and sides such as chips and salsa, quesadillas and bean burritos. Customers can also purchase items a la carte, including tacos, quesadillas and pepperoni pizza tortillas.
The Taco Roos website currently lists two locations: one in Wilmington and one in Thomasville, where Cook Out is headquartered. However, an Instagram page for the Wilmington location indicates that the spot is closed.
Further details regarding the Charlotte location and the opening timeline on North Tryon Street remain unclear. Cook Out also has a location nearby the new Taco Roos site at 9705 N. Tryon St.
Cook Out has also been active in the Charlotte market, with new locations for the chain slated to open soon. A new Cook Out is expected to come to 715 Charlottetowne Avenue, as recently reported by What Now Charlotte. Other spots are listed as “coming soon” on the Cook Out website in Harrisburg, Kings Mountain and Hickory. More locations are in development across North Carolina, as well as in other states.
Taco Roos is a shift away from the traditional American fast-casual menu associated with Cook Out, which serves burgers, hot dogs and milkshakes.
