Fogo de Chao appears to be preparing for a venture into North Carolina. A recent permit filing with the City of Charlotte indicates that the Brazilian steakhouse is heading to 200 South Tryon St.
Plans call for the renovation of an existing restaurant space for Fogo de Chao. Renovations will include HVAC, plumbing and electrical work, as well as interior construction of the floors, walls and ceiling. There are also plans to install new kitchen equipment and exhaust fans.
Some exterior renovations are planned as well, such as changes to the existing stone tile and to the canopy under the signage.
Founded in 1979 in Porto Alegre in Brazil, Fogo de Chao utilizes the culinary art of Churrasco burning. The brand made the jump to the American market in 1997, opening a location in Dallas. Since then, Fogo de Chao has grown as a global brand, opening more than 70 locations across the world.
The steakhouse’s website encourages customers to “taste the vibrant energy from our freshly curated Market Table to signature Brazilian cuts.” The menu features items like bone-in ribeye, filet mignon, bacon-wrapped steak, chicken, lamb chops, pork, smoked salmon, lobster and Chilean sea bass. They also serve the Market Table, which features a seasonal plate of ingredients inspired by Brazilian farmlands and recipes.
As of now, there is no word on when Fogo de Chao will be opening its Charlotte outpost. Currently, the nearest location to the Charlotte market is in Richmond, Virginia.
