Hawkers Asian Street Food, a chain restaurant serving up generations-old recipes and unique craft cocktails, is opening a new location in Ballantyne at 15119 Bowl St.

The company recently announced that it would be opening its first two-story rooftop location within The Bowl at Ballantyne in early 2025, as reported by the Charlotte Weekly. Hawkers Asian Street Food will have dual bars within its 5,163-square-foot restaurant, with the upstairs bar having an enclosed area to make it open-air optional. There will also be a partial canopy overhead in the rooftop dining and lounge. This will be the second location in Charlotte.

“In 2019, we opened our first Charlotte location in the heart of South End, and every day since then, the Charlotte community has been supportive of our brand and our team,” CEO Kaleb Harrell said in a news release. “Because of the trusted relationship we’ve built with this community, we were extremely selective when deciding where we wanted to open our next Charlotte location. We explored options for almost five years, and we are confident The Bowl at Ballantyne is the perfect spot for our second Queen City home. The vibrancy, the walkability, and the overall energy of the community is a great fit for our concept.”

Co-founders Kaleb Harrell, Allen Lo, Wayne Yung, and Kin Ho were encouraged to launch this restaurant after their travels across Southeast Asia, where they saw how street vendors used generations-old recipes while using local ingredients. As a result, the group brought the concept back to America, offering small Asian-influenced plates, craft cocktails, local beer, wine, or saké. Today, there are over a dozen locations in seven states, including two already in North Carolina. The new Ballantyne location will feature an open kitchen, hanging flowers, neon touches, stylish lighting, a mural, and more.

“Hawkers’ unique Pan-Asian offerings are a perfect complement to the tenant mix at The Bowl,” Lauren Britt, leasing manager for Northwood Retail, said in the news release. “As we round out leasing at The Bowl, we are being very intentional in our selections and are thrilled to have such a beloved concept joining us in south Charlotte.”
