A new Mediterranean concept, Piatto Fresco, is slated to join the Gibson Mill Market later this spring. Owner Adam Schorr told What Now Charlotte that he and his wife Omayra are targeting a May opening.

“I’ve been a chef for the past 25 years and it’s been a dream of mine to open up my own place for quite a while now,” Schorr said. “I wanted to bring something fresh and exciting.”

Piatto Fresco, which means “fresh plate” in Italian, will serve as a place “where fast-casual warmth meets vibrant Mediterranean flavors,” according to the website. Schorr is planning a simple menu with fresh ingredients. Customers can expect menu items like hummus and pita; salads like fresco caprese and chopped fresco; stuffed pitas and bowls with meat choices like chicken shawarma and braised lamb; fresh vegetables; and sauces like Tzatziki, Baba Ghanoush and hummus. Sides will include hand-cut fries, rice, quinoa, potatoes and grilled vegetables.

Schorr draws inspiration from working with chefs from the Mediterranean region and from his own experience working in Dubai.

“My husband has been a chef for so long and he is just bringing all those wonderful flavors to the community,” Omayra told What Now Charlotte. “We want to help and use as many local vendors as we possibly can, and share our passion for food with the community.”

Another new concept, Gelato di Luna, is also heading to the Gibson Mill Market, as previously reported by What Now Charlotte. They will join other tenants at the food hall, including Cara’s Cookie Co., High Branch Brewing Company, Johnny Rogers BBQ and Burgers, The Market Bar and Livy’s Neapolitan Pizzeria.
